Komatsu Encourages Infrastructure Transformation through Smart Construction Technology at VVIP IKN
Penajam, December 5, 2024 – Komatsu has once again shown its active role in supporting the transformation of development infrastructure in Indonesia, this time through its contribution to the construction of a Very Very Important Person (VVIP) Airport in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). Through operational cooperation with PT PP (Persero) Tbk as the main contractor and United Tractors Tbk as the main distributor, Komatsu presents Smart Construction 3D Machine Guidance (3DMG), Smart Construction Edge, and Smart Construction Rover technologies to accelerate the construction process.
This collaboration is a strategic step to support the acceleration of IKN infrastructure development which is in line with the government's vision of creating a modern, efficient, and sustainable government center. The VVIP IKN Airport is designed with an area of 347 hectares and a terminal area of 7,350-square meters. The infrastructure is also equipped with a 3,000-meter-long runway with a width of 45 meters, making it a modern and complex aviation facility.
In the construction process, this project requires massive work such as making drainage, slope treatment (slopping), airside perimeter, and various works using heavy equipment. Some of them are PC210 excavators for cutting and D85 dozers for spreading soil. The high scale and level of precision required in this project drove the adoption of Smart Construction technology, which is designed to ensure efficiency and accuracy at every stage of development.
Smart Construction technology allows operators to create slopes faster and more precisely, so that it can accelerate the progress of construction. This technology trial project at IKN VVIP Airport has started since the end of July 2024 and is projected to be completed in December 2024.
IKN VVIP Airport is not only an important part of the IKN's supporting infrastructure, but also a tangible form of Komatsu's support in prioritizing the work of the nation's children in all aspects of development. The project is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2024.
Komatsu's commitment through the application of modern technology and strategic cooperation is clear evidence of its contribution in realizing sustainable development in IKN, as part of efforts to create a more advanced future for Indonesia.
What is Smart Construction technology?
Digital transformation in the construction industry has given birth to innovations such as Smart Construction 3D Machine Guidance, Smart Construction Edge, and Smart Construction Rover. These three technologies work synergistically to provide a comprehensive solution that improves efficiency, accuracy, and safety in every stage of a construction project.
Smart Construction 3D Machine Guidance is an innovative solution to increase productivity and efficiency in construction work. With this system, standard excavators can be equipped with advanced guidance technology that allows operators to perform grading with high precision. Compared to conventional methods such as the use of pegs and manual checks, this technology provides more accurate results while saving time.
Smart Construction Edge is a unique device that makes drone surveys easy for everyone, both experts and non-experts. With this device, you can conduct accurate drone surveys and process them into 3D models in less than an hour, safely from dangerous locations in construction projects.
The Smart Construction Rover is a device that has advanced technology that allows for better satellite connections, even in difficult conditions. Integrated Radio and Modem Options The onboard radio options include RTK correction transmission and reception on either 450 MHz or 915 MHz UHF bandwidth, license-free. In addition, the device is very durable and can be used in a variety of weather conditions.
Comparison of Conventional Methods and Smart Construction 3D Machine Guidance (3DMG):
3DMG vs Conventional Process
The shift from conventional construction methods to Smart Construction brings significant changes in the world of infrastructure. Where manual work was often expensive, slow, and error-prone processes, Smart Construction technology now offers solutions to improve efficiency, accuracy, and productivity.
Disadvantages in conventional construction methods that are often faced include:
Manual processes that still rely on paper documents and operator feeling in working on projects make the workflow slow and increase the risk of errors
Manually done mapping takes longer and is prone to inaccuracies.
Benefits of Smart Construction
Smart Construction delivers digital transformation that supports modern construction processes with the following benefits:
Integrated information availability: project data can be accessed in real-time, allowing for better collaboration between all parties involved.
Real-time progress tracking: real-time project monitoring accelerates decision-making and project control.
Connection between people and machines: this technology connects workers and machines to improve operational effectiveness and efficiency.
Accurate cost tracking: automated systems ensure tighter budget control, reducing waste.
Fast and accurate decision-making: real-time data supports faster and fewer errors.
Mechanical and non-mechanical solutions: integration between machines and project management systems increases overall productivity.
